November 5th, 2012, I took Easton into the Dr. because he has been sick ever since Disneyland which was October 5th! He was getting worse and he was having a hard time breathing. I had worked the night before and when I got home, he had a barking cough. I kept checking on him. In the morning, he had retractions and a fever. Thats when I called and brought him in. Our Dr. wasn't in the office yet so I saw his partnering Dr. He listened to his lungs and said that he sounded horrible. We did a breathing treatment and it didn't help his wheezing at all. Dr. then came back in and told me that he was going to direct admit him to the hospital! FOR REAL!!!??? I was NOT prepared for that! I just wanted some steroid for his cough or something. I was a lil upset and told him that I didn't think it was necessary! lol He told me it was!! So I took Easton, Bailey, and myself to Timpanogos Hospital and started making phone calls! Kyle came and picked up Bailey and my mom watched her at our home for the next 3 days!!! UGH!
We got checked in and hooked up to monitors. His vitals were: Respirations:80, O2 at 90% while awake and 86% while sleeping. Respiratory came in and suctioned Easton and sent to off. It came back positive for RSV! He was only the second child of the year in their hospital with it! Great....felt so special! After they found out he was +RSV, they had to gown up every time they walked in the room....which was A LOT!! I never thought about it, but I almost felt offended when they were so cautious to touch my cute lil sweet boy! haha.
The next 3 days included a lot of monitoring, suctioning, oxygen, weighing diapers, hospital meals, and 1:1 time with my sweet boy! Because he was sooooo happy and sweet while in the hospital, it made it kind of like a little get-a-way! We just hung out and enjoyed time together!
November 6th was Voting day! Since I followed the candidates so closely, I really wanted to VOTE! And, it was my first time ever! I desperatly pleaded on Facebook for someone to bring me soap and shampoo so I could shower! Then I texted all the people I knew without children to see if someone wanted to come sit with Easton so I could run and vote! Luckily, people stepped in and helped me!
So the 3rd day, when Dr. Clayton came to check on us, he wanted us to stay another day! I told him that I would work my magic and I would take care of my lil guy at home! Luckily Kyle works at Lincare and I work in the ER. Between the two of us, we had all the equipment that the hospital was using, so we could monitor at home. The Dr. told me he trusted me to take good care of him so he allowed us to leave :) Kyle brought home a pulse oximeter to monitor him while sleeping and I just ran him in before bed and suctioned his nose! It still took him a few days to be worry free, and even a few weeks to get rid of his nasty wet cough. Needless to say, It was a rough lil bit.
The worst part......THE BILLS!!!! We are fortunate to have health insurance, but it is SUCKY!!! Our plan is 70/30, and we have NO MAX out of pocket!! Are you kiding. We keep getting bills. I think at this point we have paid $1,800 for 3 days in the hospital and 3 follow up appointments in the office!!!! REALLY? All they did was monitor him....GOSH! haha, okay, my son is alive and healthy, and that's all that matters!
